Quote:Perhaps you are overestimating the value of "aces" come playoff time. Is Verlander an ace anymore? Some of these guys (for both teams) seem to be having career years. Does that make them an ace? Verlander is not an ace anymore and might actually be better served in the bullpen come playoff time. However, he did flip on a switch last postseason and was absolutely dominant (In 22 innings, he posted a 0.39 ERA, a 0.56 WHIP, and 12.1 K/9. That is 1 earned run all post-season). I am not underestimating the value of aces. Teams drop down to 4 man rotations come playoffs. In a 5 or 7 game series, your #1 and #2 guys will both get two starts. Having the best #1 and #2 guys (Scherzer and Price) gives the Tigers a sizeable advantage in games 1, 2, 5, and 6. |
