Texans are close to acquiring Ryan Mallett

Quote:I don't really think I need to define it. My point is that none of those QBs ended their careers ended their careers "with a couple good years on a different roster". Aikman, Kelly, Marino, and Elway all only played for one team. Steve Young played His final 13 seasons (of 15 total) for San Fran. Those guys didn't have a supposed heir apparent on their roster. When a team has a QB that they think can be the future of the franchise they walk away from the vet at the age Brady is now.
I guess I should clarify my point. People are saying that the 1 year left on Mallett's contract makes the timing off. I was trying to make the point that if Mallett were any good, the timing would be perfect based on what has happened to other great QBs in similar situations.

The examples I used were great QBs who had a young starting caliber QB sitting behind them. In those circumstances they pretty much all get let go.

If Mallett were truly a franchise guy, Brady would be gone next year and Mallet would have a big starting contract.

The point I was trying to make is Mallett and Brady's careers are perfectly coordinated for Mallett to take over and Brady to walk/retire. I don't think this will happen because I don't believe anyone thinks Mallett is the heir apparent. He hasn't shown anything to make any team believe he is the future of their franchise.

NE is hoping and praying that someone bites on this guy so they will have the ammo to go out and draft someone they actually think can be the future of the franchise.
