Keep in mind that they have Sherman, Thomas, Chancellor, Bennett, Harvin, and Baldwin locked up for at least the next three seasons. The team is obviosly planning to re-sign Wilson. Current projections figure to have the salary cap rise to upwards of 150 million by 2016. Thats insentive to lock up your good talent now to avoid inflation.

 

I'm a Seahawk fan and enjoy seeing the Hawks Jags pipeline. A couple of players to keep your eye on: Bobby Wagner (LB), KJ Wright (LB), Malcolm Smith (LB), and Byron Maxwell (CB) might be available in the near future. The Hawks invested heavily in other positions on the Defense so they'll have a tough time getting all of them. Most likely to be retained will be Wagner and Wright. I don't think there is any way we can lock up Maxwell. Hes a FA at the end of this season.

 

 

What you mentioned reminds me to some extent of the dilemma the Colts dealt with for years when Bill Polian was their G.M.   The Colts had a number of players that ranked at or near the top of the best players at their positions.   Because of this,  the Colts couldn't keep a number of other quality starters.  That's what led to the Jaguars signing UFA LB Mike Peterson,   who had a number of good seasons in Jacksonville.

 

What has helped the Seahawks in addition to Russell Wilson being still on his rookie contract is they have done an excellent job with late round picks and UDRFA's.   Players that often don't fit as well in other systems are often important complimentary pieces or better with the Seahawks.
