There have been some successful ones or at least somewhat successful ones.  But I think college and NFL are just so separate levels that being great at one doesn't mean you'll be good at the other.  There's things you can get away with in college, that you won't in the NFL.  That's why I don't think Johnny Football will make it long in the league.  


Athletes who happen to be Quarterback tend to get figured out in the NFL too.  An NFL Defense will spend so much time breaking down the weaknesses of Athlete QB's (as opposed to QB's who happen to be athletes) that really make them be something they aren't.
