Jamarcus Russell sat. Brian Brohm sat. Vince Young sat. Tim Tebow sat. Matt Leinart sat.These are just off the top of my head.

 

Because the NFL slows down for good players towards the end of their first year in the league. The recent slate of immediate starters are on teams that are already pretty darn good, this team is not like that yet. Look at Geno Smith with that merry band of losers last year, the Jets fans wanted him gone. Heck, look at the tripe on this board last night about under performing draft picks who haven't play a single real game yet. You want to subject Bortles to that kind of BS the first time he throws a two pick game when you don't have to yet? Nope, get him past the wall and then move him in.

 

And McNair sat. And Palmer sat. And Rogers sat. Young sat for two different teams. Brady sat. Peyton played and was terrible. Little brother sat and won two Super Bowls because the team around developed. In every case the coaches made a decision whether or not to sit the guy based on where the team was at the moment, not the quality of the prospect sitting on the bench.
