That said, I love Mariota's tools and upside, and wouldn't be too upset if we wound up with him instead of Teddy. However, the 'progressions' that Mariota is making is the same as Algebra compared to Teddy's Calculus. 

 

While that may be true in theory, yesterday I saw Mariota look to his first option, second option, then hit his third option -- with him scrambling within the pocket from time to time, but not as often as you'd think.  He stood tall in the pocket much of yesterday's game.  He did not do that last season, nor the first couple games of this season, but he has been doing it regularly the last couple games.  I've been paying so much attention to it, because I really wanted to get a feel for each qb that could be coming out in 2014.  He really takes command of the offense.

 

While you could make a case for the offense being "gimmicky," that is not what NFL scouts look at.  They look for individual attributes, and less of the type of offense ran.  It's almost like when people get on to Teddy because of his "weak schedule."  Teddy can't help that schedule, as Mariota cannot help the offense he is in.  However, you still evaluate the player.  Mariota has a skill set that could translate to the NFL in a big way.

 

Again, Teddy is still #1 on my imaginary rankings that I make from my living room couch, but I'm on record as saying I would not mind having Mariota either.
