Any chance Jerry Sullivan could reclamate Stephen Hill?.....

Quote:He had 2 targets so he probably didn't play all that many snaps.
Actually, he played an entire half, as has been noted here. Even still, if he was so great, why wouldn't he have played more snaps? And if he's so great, why wasn't the QB looking his way?

Quote:I'm starting to wonder how many of you would have been completely against the Jimmy Smith signing. He was an injury prone receiver that had already been cut by two teams (Dallas and Philly). Sometimes talent trumps everything, especially when you have an elite coach at the position of interest.
A few key differences:
  • Jimmy Smith was a street free agent signing, not a trade or a season-opening waiver claim at the expense of a receiver who had actually produced at the pro level.
  • Smith was not a case of a player underachieving. He was a guy who'd been injured and kept off the field. That's a big contrast to Hill, who's been on the field this whole time and has half the production per year of Ace to show for it. Jimmy was hurt; Hill sucks.
  • If Hill bounces around rosters this year, sits on his thumb some more with the Jets or spends 2014 out of the league, I would not at all be opposed to bringing him in in February, like how the Jags got Jimmy, and letting him show what he can do (or, more likely, get cut after post-draft OTAs). I would be opposed to cutting a receiver who knows the offense and has a history of producing in it on the eve of the regular season so we can waste a spot on a draft bust.
I'd like to add one final piece to this equation: I would not be opposed to bringing Hill in on waivers to be the 53rd man while Ace is out. If he's got any measurable talent to him, he should be easily able to beat Brown, Doss or whoever to hold that final receiver spot once Ace returns. But trading or cutting Ace so that Hill can be a part of this team? No. Just no.
