What do all of the sheep say now?

Quote:Anyone else remember people saying that we should trust Gene Smith because he is an actual NFL GM and we are all just fans on a message board. Before everyone gets all bent out of shape, I'm certainly not saying that Gus as a HC= Gene as a GM just as I'm sure you aren't saying that Bortles=McCown, only that the organization isn't always right, and the fans aren't always wrong. It's not about right or wrong, it's about letting the guys that are paid to do their jobs actually be left alone to do their jobs until it's apparent they aren't cut out for it. The "Start Bortles Now!!" crowd probably wouldn't walk in to McDonald's and start barking out orders for which employee should be on fries, which should be at the cash register and which should be cooking hamburgers. That would be the manager's job and you'd let him do it. So let the personnel manager and coach do their jobs as well. We will see Bortles and it will probably be this year at some point. Exercise some patience for the process. If the product put out by the McDonald's in the above scenario was sub-par consistently, you probably wouldn't go back to that location. You might even complain about the product to the manager, but you wouldn't point guys out and yell out "I want him cooking my burger!". The manager should know what works personnel wise and if it's apparent he doesn't, a good owner would replace the manager. This is how business is conducted. When you boil it down, the NFL is a business just like any other. The difference is you probably don't have an emotional attachment to McDonald's like you do to your pro sports team. That being said, letting your emotions get the better of you and influence decisions doesn't usually translate to smart business decisions. I've liked very much what I've seen from Blake. A lot of times he's putting the ball where only his receiver can catch it and he throws it down field more frequently than we've seen in a very long time. I also understand that he's mostly playing against 2nd string defenses that are running vanilla coverages and not scheming against him. Let that last sentence sink in for a while. We've seen pre-season success in the past that didn't translate into the regular season. I'd be a little shocked if he came into game 1 of the regular season and didn't skip a beat from what we've seen in the pre-season. In fact, I would expect him to be worse than Henne until he has an idea what defenses will do to try to confuse him. I'm not at the closed door practices and meetings where I'm sure they are having more complex defensive schemes thrown at him. When they think he can handle it in a real game situation they will put him out there. And since I'm not at those closed door practices and meetings, I'll defer to the experts running the show that are. If and when it becomes apparent the guys running the show don't know what they're doing I'll voice my concerns. I would encourage anyone in the "Start Bortles Now!!" camp to look at things from this angle for a moment. |
