What do you want?  Some band that can sell out arenas all over the world, those days are over, that doesn't mean rock n roll isn't popular. Beiber started via youtube, he's a teen idol, not a musical talent, he wasn't created by warner brothers, or universal, etc.  The majority of touring acts are rock bands, they just don't travel in busses with a bunch of semis carrying their pyrotechnics.  I see many more cut off jean shorts and jean jackets, and black t-shirts than anything else, when I go to shows.  Jay Z and Beiber are entertainers more than musicians.  Metal is bigger than ever, there are more metal genres than "popular music acts."
