Jags outscored 33-0 in the second half. Is it the players or the coaches

#45

I think the coaches and players deserve blame. Fisch's offense looked vanilla in the second half but the execution was poor as well. Here are what I think the problem areas are based on that second half.

Defense:

-Mainly depth at the safety position....specifically the fact that Prosinski has any chance of seeing the field on Sundays. Cyp was a huge loss and Prosinski may have cost us the game with a really bad blown coverage on the Maclin TD.

-Pass rush was amazing in the first half but didn't cause Foles many problems in the second half. I don't think it's a weak point on our team anymore but it needs to be better consistently if this defense is really going to excel.

Overall there is some real promise on the defense. We're going to have to find long-term replacements for Bryant and Clemons and add some depth at safety but the future is bright I think.

Offense:

-Offensive line wasn't too bad in pass protection, but really struggled with the run game. This may be a problem all season long and the answer at the center position is most likely not on the roster.

-Quarterback: the good news about this one is obviously that we feel like we have the answer on the roster. Although Henne DID play well in the first half and made some really good throws, he made some really bad decisions and throws in the second half, mismanaged the play clock, and overall just looked incompetent. I'm okay with sitting Bortles for awhile, but against a good team like the Eagles Henne obviously isnt going to carry us to many victories.

-Inexperience at WR and the fact that Marcedes Lewis is our starting TE: good news again here is that we feel like Robinson, Lee and Hurns are going to be long-term fixtures here for us. Hurns obviously is already making plays but Robinson did nothing and Lee made a key route running mistake and had a big drop. We're just going to have to endure growing pains from the WR's but in the long run I think it will pay off. As for Lewis, he's our best option at TE right now but he rarely comes up with the tough catches or comes through when you need him most. He shouldn't be a part of the future in my eyes because we should really try to upgrade him with a better pass catching option this offseason.

This is mostly based on one half of one game but I think the problems that cost us today are all problems that we pretty much knew we would have. Very disappointing end to the game though any way you cut it, and I hope the players, Coach Bradley and the coaching staff all learn from this and make sure it doesn't happen again, because it shouldn't.
