What will get Goodell fired is probably two factors or a combination of the two: if big money sponsors start indicating disfavor with Goodell's handling of this and the image of the NFL, and if the owners feel that the NFL's value as a valuable entertainment enterprise has been seriously damaged.

 

The NFL. like all entertainment companies, is very reliant on the goodwill of it's customers. If the owners sense that has been compromised I think they'll look to institute a new PR campaign, starting with a new commissioner.
