I think we could win 3 to 5 games this year and pick 4 th or. 5 th. And still get a qb who is immediaey better than gabbert .

What I have realized is that GMs all have different ways of evaluating players. Some look base the players play solely on game tape, some on measurables, some on the combination of the two obviously I'm no scout so this is just through observation for me but it seem that Gene was a measurable guy. He focused more on what the player looked like in body wise than skill set. The best example I can think of recently is Russell Wilson. Had he been 4-6 inches taller he would have been a top 3 pick but being 5'10 he was over looked by everyone and because of that many teams have missed out on a potential franchise qb.

 

I wont lie and say what it the proper way to evaluate is but to me the eye test seems to be the best way. If they look like they can play in the game chances are they can play in the game. Blaine on the other hand has never shown any flashes of amazing play. I remember in 2011 a friend and I were talking about the qb class that was coming in and talking about our favorites. We both agreed on Andy being they best because when we watched him play all of his passes were directly to the wide receiver. No one had to stretch for passes or you never saw a lot of amazing grabs from his wr's because they were right where their hands were to make a sure handed catch. 'Im sure you can guess who our least favorite was. 

 

Blaine never flashed any amazing play making ability, no big time stats, no exquisite accuracy or anything. He just looked like a tall guy with a big arm and that's all he turned out to be. The issue with qb is that you really never know who will be good or not so you just draft a guy and hope for the best. That's what Gene did. He played the game and failed. Im only 25 so I only have a small sample of football to go on outside of rewatching old classic games, but Blaine is the worst quarter back I have ever watched since I started watching football in 1995 maybe Jonathan Quinn is worse but he was a 6th rounder. He has zero command of the game. It's just to much for him. He has the ability and maybe in a better situation were he could have sat for 2-3 years he might have turned out better but right now it's just not in him.
