I'm old school. My grandmother served for 23 years as a Postmaster, where she was trained to handle the U.S. flag according to the United States Flag Code, an actual Federal law with no punitive teeth due to Supreme Court rulings. I remember her letting me fold the flag, but I had to stand at the top step of the building's porch and let the flag hang down over the edge so it wouldn't touch the ground.

She forbade me from wearing clothing that displayed the flag, even incompletely like a Stars and Stripes bandana, in her presence. Such a display was forbidden by the Flag Code. Since then, I've never owned any clothing that displays the Stars and Stripes in any fashion. Am I still a real 'Merican?
