Best players come from the South

Quote:And yet all 3 of our professional teams suck, 2 of the big 3 schools suck, and the outlier smaller division schools are average to suck. As far as the NFL teams, where you are located just doesnt matter anymore. College has moved in that direction but will never fully because at the end of the day, kids often choose to stay close to home. Look at the Colorado Buffs. It's a great college town. They play bigtime football. Would be an awesome experience for any college kid. But they cant recruit well because there is no good local talent. And at the end of the day most kids dont want to stray too far from home. CU's only blip on the radar in the early 90s was when they convinced all these kids from southern california to go there. As far as the florida colleges look at this... http://hsflorida.scout.com/a.z?s=376&p=9&c=4&yr=2015 look at how many of the top tier players have signed up to leave the state. Now I realize it's this way for many states but there are just so many really good football players in Florida that leave. Now I dont think you'll ever be able to close off the state but it is part of the reason why these Florida schools are down. The other thing that causes down programs is the recruiting out of state. I wouldnt expect the Gators to get all the top talent in the state. But why not get a lot of the middle tier talent that goes elsewhere and develops into good players? Look at their recruiting class last year. Why are they getting a 3 star kid from Arizona? And a 3 star kid from Wyoming? And a 3 star kid from Kansas? Push comes to shove a 3 star kid from Florida is better. Yet those kids leave and go to Lousville or Clemson or somewhere else and turn into good players. These colleges in Florida should only leave the state for top tier talent. If you can get some 5 star WR from Virginia (Harvin) or 5 star DT from New York (Easley) then good for you. But no reason whatsoever to leave the state for any other type of player. If you want to reach into Georgia or Alabama then fine. But otherwise forget it. I remember this funny story about Rex Grossman. He wanted to go to Florida but they werent recruiting him. And he asked why not and was told "We're UF. We don't recruit the state of Indiana." Eventually he had to send in tape for the team to look at and obviously got an offer. But if you're Florida why would you recruit Indiana? I remember Meyer wasting a roster spot on some highly thought of LB from Indiana who of course was a bust. I'd take some 3 star LB out of Dade County before I'd ever take the best LB prospect from Indiana. Recruit local. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff. |
