I am, and have been all season, more upset with the defense. I understood the offense would be pretty bad. There's not much excuse for the defense. In the front 7, only one starter wasn't/isn't a multi-year vet (and only one wasn't specifically signed by Dave to start for a couple of seasons at the minimum. Well, technically, its two, but Watson hasn't been able to win the starting job, which I think is another indictment of Dave's free agent signings.) and the pressure hasn't been consistent, and the run defense can't seem to stop anyone except Donald Brown (even Trent Richardson looked serviceable against the Jags). The secondary was Alan Ball and a bunch of second year players who we all expected to see improvement from, but that hasn't been the case. Guy was cut and Evans isn't much better, and Gratz has regressed significantly. I thought Cyp was having himself a coming out season before the injury, but since he's returned he's been pretty quiet (which is still improvement, because last year he was getting abused for a decent part of the season. It just doesn't seem like quite as much progress as he was making before the injury.). McCray looked like a God send today, but I was all aboard the Dee Webb train a couple years back when the 7th rounder got thrown into gametime duty against Manning and the Colts, only to leave me sobbing uncontrollably the next week when he took the field again, so I'm trying to keep my expectations level for McCray. Overall though, the defense looked better today when compared to the rest of the season, but given the make-up of the D, they should be, and should have been, better.

 

I'm not looking for a magical turnaround from last season to this season from the defense; just to not get blown out every week with a front 7 of specifically sought-after free agents and a secondary of high draft picks. :confused:
