I work in a hospital. Even for much less communciable diseases, there is a very strict protocol for how we put on our gowns/gloves/masks and how we take them off. Something as simple as touching the wrong part of your glove can break protocol and make one susceptible.

 

Anyone who has spent much time in a hospital environment knows it is the most fertile breeding ground for secondary infections. One nurse I know half-jokes "If you want to get staph,check into the ER." In the CNN report, where they quoted the hospital's press release verbatim, it was noted that nurses were concerned that their necks weren't covered when treating Duncan. It was also reported that the first infected nurse had no "buddy" watching her remove her protective clothing, a standard procedure in hospitals that specialize in infectious diseases.

 

I bet every hospital and medical treatment facility in this country, as well as the world, is conducting mandatory in-service training and review of infectious disease treatment protocols as we speak.
