THis team hasn't drafted/ developed a top of the line defenseman since Behn Wilson. That was over 3 decades ago! Even when they had the standout pairing of Mark Howe and Brad McCrimmon, those were both got from trades.

Since that time the best defensemen the Flyers have had was Dmitri Yuskevich, Eric Desjardins, Kimmo Timonen and now Mark Streit. None of those are anything better than a run of the mill "decent" type of player.

They did draft a few over the years as well, but they missed badly.

I'll give em credit for trying their darndest to get Shea Weber in free agency the other year, but bottom line is they didn't get him.

The lack of quality puck moving D-men over the years has been just as big an issue for the Flyers as Goaltender has been, IMO.

I'll agree somewhat, saying both positions have been lacking. But they have made runs in the playoffs and a good goalie can carry you through the playoff.
