Just a reminder about firing a coach before his 3rd/4th season
|
Quote:#2 - Teams that keep firing/hiring coaches every 2 years on average do keep sucking. Feel free to look that up from the last 10 years. You're confusing cause and effect. Teams that suck tend to hire bad coaches that need to be replaced. The sucking comes down from the top. Secondly, good coaches will show promise in year two and will thus not be fired, so there's a selection effect in the process. If you keep hiring bad coaches, keeping them longer is not going to help your team. The 49ers went through three bad coaches before they hired Harbaugh. They kept him, does that suddenly make them a smart team? Or is it just because he actually won in his first two seasons and even the Browns wouldn't be crazy enough to cut him after that? By your logic the 49ers should have stuck with Singletary (or Nolan, or Erickson). Gus hasn't shown any promise this year. The team hasn't improved much over last year's disaster, not in the record, nor the O/D rankings. He has no previous track record as a head coach, and only 4 years as a coordinator, of which only two were above bad. His successor did even better, implying that Gus was not the reason the Seattle defense was so good in 2011 and 2012. If he turns the team around in these next 10 games, then great. If he doesn't, then apparently the Jags are one of those teams that suck from the top down. Didn't anyone see that hiring an inexperienced coach to develop a bunch of inexperienced players was a recipe for disaster? "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" |
