The last time I voted in Duval before moving out of state was in 2008. I was not asked for an ID and when I tried to show them anyway they looked at me like I was crazy. And I was the minority in my voting district at the time. Forgive the way I put this but I don't know how else to explain it. I was the whitest person in the blackest part of town, and no one raised an eyebrow. I thought that was just weird. I'd always been asked for ID previously wherever I voted. 

 

Here in NC, or at least the county I live in, they require ID to vote. Or they ask for it anyway. I don't know what happens if you don't have one. I think I'll ask someone at the mid-terms. 

 

I think those who vote should have to show a state ID card of some sort and a voter's registration card. If the ID is for voting privileges only it should be free, of course. But these things will never happen because politicians on both sides would rather cheat than do the right thing. The only difference between them is one side seems more subtle than the other, but both want the same thing.
