First and foremost, the team doesn't give a flying crap about you wanting them to lose. They want to be the best at what they do and want to win every time they step foot on the field.

 

Should they lose out, then they may or may not have the coveted first overall pick. Other teams are also losing too, so they still may not. 

 

But the bottom line remains unchanged. You can't call yourself a fan of a team that you want to lose. You may think you are, and you may try to spin it a million different ways and talk about big pictures and all that jive talk, but when it's cut and dried, you turned your back on your team. That may be fine with some of you. It would never be fine with me.

 

I stand behind my team ALWAYS. I don't pick and choose my moments. Maybe I'm a dying breed, but I see good as good, and I see bad as bad. I don't try to mix the two and try to rationalize it to myself to make myself feel better about being a fraudulent fan.

If you haven't heard a legitmate argument, it isn't because it hasn't been offered.  It's because you have been unwilling to hear.

 

The team may not care if we want them to lose.  Hate to break it to you, but based on the way they've chosen to rebuild the team, they may not care if you want them to win this year.  You don't think the $30 million or so in cap space we have could have been used to attract some players that would improve the team's performance this year?  Isn't it possible that a few free agents along the OL, DL and WR could have at least netted us a win over Oakland?

 

You can call yourself a fan if you want what is in the long term best interests of the team.  That's what all of us want.  You consider yourself a better breed of fan and us a lesser breed, which is fine if that makes the sun shine brighter in your world.  However, as deep as your convictions on this topic seem to run, as right as you think you are, you have yet to identify a single tangible benefit to winning those meaningless games in 2011 as I asked you to do pages ago.  I don't think I placed a particularly onerous burden upon you. If you had the truth behind you, you should have no problems making that case.  But the fact is those wins didn't springboard the team to greater success in 2012 by teaching the lessons on how to win.  The team regressed by 60% in terms of wins and losses and finished with the worst record in the league.  The team wasn't any more competitive in their losses.

 

2011 showed us what I've been saying since 2010-namely that Gene Smith left a lot to be desired as a GM, and that he left us completely bereft of talent.  In the desperate quest to add talent, Gene Smith, in maybe his one good pick as GM, drafted Justin Blackmon.  However, because of those two meaningless wins against the Colts, the team had to trade away a 4th round pick to get in a position to get him.  That 4th round pick could have added a quality interior OL, or a DL, or a RB.  Forget about Luck or RG III for the moment.  You can make the argument that last week win in 2011 that did nothing to change the standings in our favor cost us a 4th round pick that could have helped the team this year.  A 4th round pick in our pocket might have given Smith less incentive to draft a punter in the 3rd instead of Russell Wilson.  However, you didn't see the liability Gene Smith continues to be for this team, just like you don't see what is necessary to turn this team around...just like you don't see how ridiculous you look in belittling other fans for this.
