I think he needs to run for election to some other office first.   He needs to get the experience of the political combat, dirty tricks, and unexpected revelations that come in an election.  

 

Using a cabinet position as a steppingstone to the Presidency is like training to become a boxer and having your first fight be for the heavyweight title. 

 

I think he will sink like a rock in the Republican primary.   Everyone will play all nice-nice with him in public, but behind the scenes, his campaign will get torpedoed.  Professional politicians know how to do that.
