Bortles vs Luck as Rookies
|
I think Carr will end up fine. He had the most natural arm coming out, is athletic, a good leader, and has a good head on his shoulders. He lacks pocket presence, though. I don't think many QBs can make up for that deficiency but if he can he'll be a good one. I've always compared him to Matt Stafford, but I think he will be a little more accurate. If he gets a team around him, which I sincerely hope, then the Raiders will be in business.
Teddy will be ok, I think. His arm isn't the strongest, and (unlike Bortles whose improvement in footwork made his arm-strength very good) his footwork is spot-on so he won't progress much more physically. He's pretty much gone how I expected when I scouted him. I think that once he learns the game, he'll be a franchise QB but not necessarily an elite one. Similar to Alex Smith. He has a good defense, a stud WR and possibly AP if he returns, but his O-Line is atrocious. I don't think Mett will last. He's got a strong arm and he's got guts, but he's a statue, and statue+injury history does not bode well. If he improves, maybe the Titans will stick with him, but if not... I see the Titans as a landing spot for Jameis/Mariota (or Cook if he comes out). As for Johnny... I was all about him before the draft. I'm eating my crow, though. If he can't beat out Hoyer (or if Hoyer takes the team deep in the playoffs), wouldn't be surprised to see him traded to a QB-needy team outside the top five, possibly even the aforementioned Titans.
