Bortles vs Luck as Rookies
|
Quote:What's your analysis on bortles? Well, I didn't really scout him that much predraft. I watched his games and saw a guy with obvious physical ability, moxie, and skill, but he was extremely raw coming out... which I suppose lines up with what Caldwell thought. I was at the draft party when we took him and I was scared and disappointed. As for how he is now, I was extremely surprised by his progress. His footwork has improved drastically and his arm strength shows that. He throws picks, but hey he's a rookie qb. What I love most about him are his pocket presence and confidence, because those are things you can't teach. Honestly he was the definition of a potential based pick. He has everything you can't teach (arm strength, build, athleticism, confidence, pocket presence, it factor ) and is eager to learn what he needs (footwork, etc ). I didn't think he would play this year and it's not been perfect, but I think eventually he will be at least a Big Ben or Cutler level guy (borderline elite), though with his work ethic he could be much more. Add in the fact that the entire offense outside of Zane Beadles are within two years of starting experience, and It's obvious there was gonna be struggles this year. While patience isn't popular, if we have some, our offense could legitimately be dominant in a few years.
