They give him flack because as a big TE target, there's just way too many games that he's either invisible in or puts up very pedestrian numbers, especially at his salary.

 

Look around the league and you see the better TEs helping/bailing out their QB in a lot of situations and we just don't get enough of that from ML.

 

Now maybe some of that is on coaching, but ML needs to make himself an offensive presence/weapon on the field, especially as big as he is, compared to the guys who are trying to cover him.

 

Simply put, he is way overpaid for what the Jags get from him and that's why ML gets a lot of flack.
