Honestly not sure but it's certainly bad technique.

He had a shoulder injury that got him a medical redshirt so maybe that is why he is hesitant to be an aggressive tackler. While he was being recruited out of Miami he was considered one of the hardest hitters in FL. Maybe his ability to thump people and have them fall led to him never learning the fundamentals of tackling.

 

People compare him to Ed Reed and he might cover like Ed Reed but he tackles more like Deion Sanders.

He comes up to tackle… Totally Stops, Sets his fee, Turns his head, Lowers his shoulder and braces for impact. He does not initiate contact

He meets Karlos Williams head on at the 5 yard line and it looks like he is making a good tackle but NOPE

Just before contact he sets his feet, lowers his head (closes his eyes, prays for help) and braces for contact. While he does at least grab the guys waist and take him to the ground but it aint impressive. Again, not initiating contact or exploding through the ball carrier
