Bortles vs Luck as Rookies
|
A couple of observations about Luck vs. Bortles;
I believe that Luck had 7 late game-winning drives in his rookie year, a record. His relatively low completion percentage was primarily due to the fact that he threw a lot more long passes than the average NFL QB. He was sacked and knocked down a lot, so any argument that he had better pass protection than Bortles is not accurate. His running game was not anything to get excited about, either. In fact, Luck rushed for 5 TD's in his rookie year, 1 less than the rest of his running backs had in total. I'm not claiming Bortles won't develop into a top QB, all I'm saying is that Luck achieved much more in his rookie year without a stellar offensive line. I feel confident that Bortles will develop, albeit at a slower rate than Luck. Perhaps, and I hope I'm correct, in 5 years they will be like clones of Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. |
