I'm personally not a fan of Mariota or Winston but if Caldwell thinks one of them is a franchise QB I wouldn't be upset that he takes them. I'm a Bortles supporter through and through but we've passed on guys too many times in the past, like Big Ben for example, because we think we're set at QB. If you don't take them you better get a hell of a player or a king's ransom in a trade back and get several darn good players. Passing on franchise QB's when you're playing at the level this team is can cost you your job.

There is no chance Dave C will pick another QB in the first round. He has to believe that Bortles can improve (and in an ideal world he would still want BB learning his game from the bench) and a second season for a big pick like that has to be the minimum. Besides, replacing a high-value pick like Bortles after just one season would be a major admission of failure and effectively career suicide.


Having said that, picking a QB late in the draft to develop from the bench might make sense, if they've given up on Henne.


I agree with everyone else about the need for a star though. This team is very very short on them at the moment. And you would probably have to say our WR pool is solid but unspectacular at the moment. Yes, Hurns and ARob have had some good games, but we haven't got a superstar. Maybe one of them will develop into one, but eleven games gone, one hasn't emerged yet...
