Jim McElwain reportedly Gators top candidate

Quote:I think he'd be stupid to leave.

1) He is a western/rocky mountain guy.  Grew up in Montana.  Played college at Eastern Washington.  Spent his first 10+ years coaching as an assistant at E. Washington and then Montana St.  Western guy.

2) Thought I read he is making $1.5M base with additional bonuses on top and I'm sure if Florida was interested he could leverage that into more money from CSU.  So basically he'll never have to worry about money for the rest of his life.

3) Ft Collins isnt the most amazing town(it isnt Austin or Athens) but its a nice college town (Gainesville isnt better).  And its literally right up against the mountains.  You could stand on the top row of their football stadium, throw a rock, and hit the base of the rocky mountains.  Plenty of great places to live up in the mountains where he is.  If he doesnt want to be in Ft Collins proper, there are nice places to live just south of there in Longmont and Loveland.  An hour from Boulder.  Just over an hour from Denver.  So there is plenty to do.

4) He is building a good program that is pointing up.  Won 10 games this year.  Was in the running for that automatic bowl spot for the midmajors.  After winning 10 games, he'll have no pressure for at least 5 seasons.  If he can continue to build the program and turn them into a consistent 9-11 win team, they'll name the stadium after him.

His life has got to be amazing right now.  Tons of money.  Cool area.  Building a good program.  No pressure.

Florida, however, is a pressure cooker.  Dont win 10 games a year and the natives will be out with pitchforks.  Tons of pressure.  Hotter than hell in the summer.  Sure they'll pay a lot more but its not like money is an issue where he is now.  As one who values work/life balance, I think he'd be crazy to leave.

None of your points are really valid.  He's at Colorado State...it will never be a national power.  If you're a coach that wants to win national titles (like when he was at Bama) you are going to take a job with a team that can get you there.  With Florida, there is that possibility.
