No it's not a penalty because the ball carrier is in front of him and #81 has the right to push, block, or run in to him and cause both players to trip. If the WR was cracking down on a LB on a play like a toss sweep then the WR that is blocking must get his helmet in front of the defender...and if the defender's has his back turned that is when it becomes a block in the back. Another way to look at it is if the defender is further up field than the blocker then it is legal to block them....most guys just give them a shove, which is perfectly fine. |
