Deacon, I don't believe Jdub is a term of endearment because when people use it, I get mad. How can it be a term of endearment if it does not make me happy? In your example, Heed looks to me like people were teasing Alvens for looking old and ugly. That is the exact opposite of what terms of endearment are used for - to raise a person's self esteem. If you want to give me a nickname for that purpose, make it one that represents a good trait like I did for my cat.
