So what? Get rid of the power 5 and have just SEC vs. one other consolidated division? That's essentially what you're suggesting, right? That unless you're winning in the SEC, that you don't deserve to be in the playoffs? That'll never happen in this landscape.

 

FSU scheduled a top 25 team from the Big 12 (or were they still Big 10 back then? can't remember) in OK St, a top 25 team from the SEC (Go Gataz!), and the top indy team in ND. If you add Clemson (a top ACC team), those four (based on reputation) are somewhat comparable to Bama's UF (common opponent), A&M (=Ok ST), Ole Miss (=ND), and Arkansas (=Clemson)...that is assuming those teams remained as good as they were when the schedule was made.

 

The big difference (and what made Bama's schedule that much harder) was LSU and the surge of Miss St.

 

For a team outside of SEC, there is literally nothing else that FSU could have done scheduling wise unless they had a magic crystal ball to predict which teams are going to be good in 2014.
