A Westminster man is charged with assaulting a sheriff's deputy who he apparently thought was an alien coming to take him to space.

Mark Noel Palmisano, 53, of the 1200 block of Pinch Valley Road, is charged with second-degree assault, second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order and carrying a handgun on his person, according to electronic court files.
