While Bortles' offense isn't as gimmicky as Oregon's, its not like Blake was running a pro-style offense in college.


Mechanically and fundamentally, Mariota is more sound throwing the football than Blake.


Mariota isn't as big as Blake, but he's faster and more athletic.


Both require a year of sitting and learning, ideally.


Bortles went #3 in a draft that is viewed to be stronger than this year's.


I think Mariota still goes top 3 after workouts, interviews (seems like a likeable guy), and combine.

I did see some it it, but generally players who rely on their athletism come to the nfl and find they're not that more athletic than the other players and it doesn't work out.


An example I saw in the game yesterday was on 3rd and 6 mariota decided to run to the outside even though there was 2 defenders out there and even once he saw them he didn't run back to avoid them and go for a pass he tried to skip past them.


He has itchy feet and I didn't see much of him actually improvising that much he seemed very predetermined before the snap what he was going to do, even when he left the pocket most of the time he did it within a couple of seconds which suggests it was his plan.
