Before we bury the SEC they did just go 7-5 in bowl games with one loss being in OT.  And another being a last second FG in which LSU got screwed out of a TD earlier in the game.  So its not as though this was some catastrophe of a bowl season.  

 

I keep reading a lot about the Big10 and obviously you have to give Ohio St credit for beating Alabama.  But Wisconsin(the 3rd best Big10 team) basically played to a draw against Auburn (the 6th best SEC team).  Minnesota (Big10 4) just got crushed by Mizzou (SEC 5).  And Tenn just blew out Iowa both of whom were 9 or 10 in their respective leagues.  The SEC just has more depth and quality teams than the Big10.  Even if at 9pm on new years day Ohio St played a better game than Alabama.

 

The problem the SEC had this year is that they just didnt have one elite team.  All their best teams had noticeable flaws that were their eventual downfall.  Whether it be Alabama's pass defense.  Ole Miss' and Mizzou's wildly inconsistent QBs.  Miss St lacking elite talent across the board.  LSU having arguably the worst starting QB in the SEC.  UGA annually getting Mark Richted once or twice a year.  But as usual the SEC just has more quality depth.  And more talent than any other league.  You've got 7 teams that are legitimate top 25 caliber teams.  And with A&M and Arkansas that's arguably 9 of the top 40 college teams.  No one else can come close to that. But they just didnt have the very best team.  A complete team.  Or a team good enough to overcome their biggest flaw.
