Unfortunately when Luck was drafted by the colts, I think it really did start a new trend for teams. One that Caldwell was well aware of and even adapted himself. He admitted towards mailing in his first 2 seasons. The obvious benefit is having a high draft pick for who you think will be your franchise QB. Make no mistake, Caldwell did exactly what Indianapolis did to get Luck.

 

At this point, Its in a teams best interest to tank (by cutting the fat and playing rookies) until they find "their guy" and then build from there.

 

As a fan, This is sickening but I am glad to be on the right side of a trend for once.
