When everyone was blasting me for overusing the phrase QB purgatory during predraft last year, this is exactly why I did it. I too would take Gabbert every time over Dalton. You know he's got it or he doesn't fast, and if he doesn't you move on and try again. You get a Dalton and you're stuck for half a decade or more at least.

 

I will say that the Bengals did a great job with Dalton's extension, though. After next year they can cut him with no guaranteed money left, that was very wisely structured. However, it will also be very hard for them to just cut the QB who 'led' them to 5 straight playoff appearances (assuming they make it again next year), so we'll see.
