The answer to that question is so broad it's difficult to answer. regulations can change by state, city or county, they also change based upon the type of industry. The current federal regulation registry is 80,000 pages that's an insane amount of red tape to try and guide through. For example I have a friend that started a taxi company, he has to pay "tokens" for each cab he owns and operates in each county. So for him to pick up a customer in Volusia county or at the Orlando airport and transport them back to Flagler county he has to buy tokens from 4-5 different counties. It makes it very hard for the small business man with 4-5 cabs trying to compete with big yellow cabs. 

 

In automotive for me dispose of tires properly (after purchasing all my business licenses) I have to purchase a specific certificate that lets be legally sell them to a third party (who had to purchase a specific license) to load them on a semi-trailer and send them to a grinding plant. I can't just send them to the grinding plant myself, that would require me purchasing a disposers certificate.

 

There's literally an endless list of regulations that make it extremely difficult for new business to compete with established big business. And that is our major problem, the lack of jobs and related lower wages because employers know people are desperate for work is all related to the lack of new business being created.

Using the tokens example as a basis for right/wrong regulation discussion. Having the tokens is restrictive to start up competition in the taxi market. However, if you remove them, I think companies like Uber/Lyft would immediately dominate the market and make in completely uneconomical for say a single person to start his own cab service. Uber doesn't really care either way since they can afford to pay for these tokens for their drivers (this is what large cab companies already do) while still driving down taxi prices in comparisons to the current cab companies in nearly all markets. Simply saying some are a problem for certain cases doesn't make them right or wrong or restrictive across the board. 

 

I think one's you can repeal are ones that put restrictive fees/entry costs on small businesses to allow them to get into the market. As they grow they then start paying the fees/taxes whatever you want to call them. Large companies don't need these breaks and should be held to higher standards, IMO due to their profitability. I think the problem arises when you start lifting or reducing regulations on things like polluting/environmental impact. Or putting laws in place that allow businesses to not treat employees well.. Working hours/wages come to mind. I agree it is a very tricky field to navigate and I don't know that anyone has the whole answer.
