Owner of St. Louis Rams plans to build NFL stadium in L.A.

#61

Quote:This is very interesting.  I feel like the city already knows the Rams are going to leave for LA, and they are already setting it up to get another team.  Two teams have left because that city just isn't viable as an NFL franchise, why would another team go there?

<p style="margin:0em 0em 1.2em;font-family:Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-size:16px;">“After a while, you sort of get the hint,” Jeff Rainford, Slay’s chief of staff, added.  (Keeping with the whole “no talking” trend, a Rams spokesman declined comment.)

<p style="margin:0em 0em 1.2em;font-family:Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-size:16px;">If the Rams leave (like the Cardinals did before the Rams), St. Louis hopes to attract another team.

<p style="margin:0em 0em 1.2em;font-family:Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-size:16px;">“The NFL can make money in St. Louis,” Rainford said.  “It may end up being the Rams with this owner, the Rams with a different owner, a different team with a different owner.”

What helps St. Louis'  case is the overall history of the Cardinals and Rams when in St. Louis.    I touched on the following in another thread but it's worth mentioning here as well.   In those 48 seasons,   St. Louis has only had 8 playoff seasons.   Granted,  the Rams won the Super Bowl in the 1999 season and lost the 2001 season Super Bowl on the final play of the game.   But the last 8 seasons of Rams football has been either horrific or below average.   The Cardinals never won a playoff game in their 28 seasons in St. Louis.

On top of everything else,  for the last few years,  Stan Kroenke hasn't said a word publicly about working towards the goal of keeping the Rams in St. Louis.    Between that and the subpar product on the field,   it's understandable why many Rams fans have not supported the team financially.

I believe with good ownership that's committed to St. Louis and a good product on the field,  St. Louis would respond favorably to the Rams or another NFL team.   St. Louis is the 20th largest market in the country and has a number of large corporations in that Metropolitan Area.    Granted,  the baseball Cardinals will likely almost remain # 1 by a wide margin in St. Louis.  A strong case can be made that the Cardinals have the best fan base in all of MLB.     Yet,  the market is large enough that the city can also support an NFL team and the NHL Blues.
