I don't know about other states, but here in NC my husband is having to get a psych eval done to get a concealed carry permit. Not to buy the gun (he did have a background check done) but to get the conceal permit. I don't know what they do if you have 'issues'. I think if you've ever been committed to an institution you can't get a CC permit (I know you can't serve on jury duty if you have). 

 

The funny thing is, you can open carry all day long, as long as you don't take it in a place of business that has a sign forbidding you to carry. But CC has so many rules. I remember seeing a guy in Fayetteville walk into Target with a sidearm on his hip and thought that to be very much a no-no. But apparently not. 

 

We've never owned guns until recently and now have a shotgun (mine) and a 9mm (his). And we're looking into getting another long gun. We're definitely learning a lot of stuff when it comes to the laws of owning. They have some weird ones up here.
