Eliminating the Rooney Rule doesn't mean they're going to scale back on minority hires. You seem to believe that this rule somehow saves minority hires and gives them a fighting chance when they would otherwise not have it. 

 

There are only 32 teams in the NFL. These people talk and they all have an idea which coaches are up-and-comers and which ones aren't that good. Just because Rooney was an advocate for this change, it doesn't mean he's the foremost expert or that it's even necessary right now.

The question was clear enough where you cherry picked the last part initially. I was actually asking a rhetorical question sarcastically.


The whole point of establishing the Rooney Rule was to create a fair and balanced interview and promotion process. Rooney was an advocate for the change because again he along with the leauge saw issues regarding the lack of diversity. He didn't have to be an expert, Dungy, and other former league personnel pushed for the change, he had the power to convince the other owners the rule would be good for the NFL. If he saw it as a pointless measure, he would have never pursued the creation of the rule, or call for it to end. I'll wait for the legitimate uproar from owners stating that it's a waste of time, and needs to be abolished before even giving the question of its existence a second look.
