I don't believe those renderings were done by anyone associated with Khan's plan. They had a mock up they used when they started talking about this last year, but it was light on details.  Subsequently, there's been a lot of talk about not only having the indoor practice facility and offices for the Jaguars on that property, but also a possible aquarium, and of course that Ferris Wheel. 

 

In speaking to someone who is with the organization who has had conversations with Mr. Khan and Lamping about this subject, there's been a lot of talk about having the Maritime Museum expand their presence in the area including having a ship as a permanent exhibit, retail, restaurants, clubs, and housing.  From what I was told, there are already a couple of restaurants who have expressed interest in being part of the plan along with one major hotel. 

 

Putting that land to some use will change the dynamic of that entire area. 

 

To answer the question about this being the death of the Landing, I don't think so.  The intention is to create a corridor between the Landing and the Ship Yards for an entertainment venue similar to what we had during the Super Bowl a decade ago.  The Landing is already working on plans to basically demolish the place and rebuild with a multi-use facility that has a mix of housing, retail, and entertainment options.

 

The aquarium proposal looks pretty slick, and would be a major draw if it ever came to life.
