Comment 3's son quit after 2nd or 3rd game. Never saw, or heard him after that. Never worked while at practice. This mom has some nerve. Just venting, sorry.  

 

You're taking an extreme case of a parent that needs to be talked to, not the kid.  Tell the parent no he does not get one because he didnt participate fully and the parent can tell their kid that.

 

8 year old kids dont see participation awards the same way you do.  They see it as spending time with their friends and showing their commitment to the team.  If you want to give a couple awards above and beyond to the stand out players, have at it.
