As someone with personal experience (step-son), I'm willing to bet this was a misdiagnosis in her teenage years. Why is this significant? Signs pointing towards Aspergers would have been there from a very early age and become more progressive; 2 years and up.
Medication has been previously mentioned and this is what strikes curiosity. No doubt she was prescribed medication for a social anxiety/disorder, as there is no medication specifically for Aspergers. The misdiagnoses would be as a result of a specific medication side effect.
I would almost bet most likely she is suffering from a form of Tourettes, which oddly enough is a side effect of most stimulant medications and also shares similar symptoms with Aspergers, but at it's lowest form is not so debilitating that normal social interaction or even message board interaction could occur.
