So you think Bortles had a bad season?!?!
|
Quote:Bortles was sacked 55 times in 14 games. That was more times than any QB in the league. 16th all time in terms of times being sacked. Were we to add just HALF of Henne's sacks, he would be tied for 4th. If we were to add 3/4th's of Henne's sacks he'd nearly be third. And if we were to add all of Henne's sacks he'd be in 3rd. It may coincide, but it really doesn't have anything to do Robinson. It's not like Allen was some deep threat. The eye test showed a much more conservative Bortles later in the season, and the stats confirm that. You can blame it on Robinson, or Pazstor, or even Fisch. But my opinion, based on what I saw on the field and what I heard off-field (interviews from Blake, Gus, Jedd talking about limiting mistakes)), it was more about a young QB who took less risks (far more conservative than he should have) in order to cut down on his mistakes. Blake had 8 TDs in his first 8 games, but with 14 Ints. In his next 6, he finished with only 3 TDs and 3 INTs. And quite frankly, he didn't really need to. A handful of his INTs were avoidable. There was one where he was scrambling towards the end zone and threw the ball to a covered defender when he could have ran for the first down. There was one that he said "got away" and ended up getting picked in the endzone. I recall another where he scrambled and threw it across his body. That's 3 out of the 14. Instead of removing those from Blake, it would seem that we limited him overall (again, blame on Jedd's playcalling, Gus, or Blake himself). Here's hoping that Olson will continue to allow Blake to play like Blake. Just watch this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLiCehA8TmA It was night and day from then to what we saw late in the season. |
