I know a lot of people don't like Henne as backup and would prefer somebody else to be Bortles back up. I want to throw out some names with some thoughts and see what everyone thinks.

 

 

Brian Hoyer- Personally, I don't think he would want to come here and be a back up to Bortles. I think he believes he is a solid starter, and wouldn't accept a back up role. He has shown an ability to win, but he doesn't really do anything all that great.

 

Austin Davis- He did decent with the Rams. He showed an interest in throwing the long ball and did it relatively well. He performed extremely well when pressured, which was quite common behind a horrible offensive line. I think he is an extremely solid backup option that could lead us to victories should Bortles get injured, something I don't feel confident saying about Henne.

 

Jake Locker- Personally, I say hell no. Too injury prone, and still thinks he is a top class quarterback. Like Hoyer, I don't see him happy as a backup at this point.

 

Ryan Mallet- Has nice arm strength and has shown potential. Like Hoyer and Locker, he may feel he is better served as a starter.

 

Mark Sanchez- A solid #2 option with ability to win. Some teams will see him as a starter, so no chance we sign him.

 

Matt Moore- Played extremely well when given the starter role over Henne. Played much better than Henne. Decent backup option. Brings experience.

 

Josh McCown- Has already proven that he can be a solid backup option. Would need lots of help around him, which we are hoping to get in FA this year. Brings experience and may be a better mentor than Henne.

 

Shaun Hill- Pretty much the same as McCown.

 

 

 

I think we should strongly consider Austin Davis as he is still young, showed good potential and a capability to win when given the reigns with the Rams and played well behind a horrid offensive line.

 

Any thoughts on Davis, any QB listed as it concerns us, or guy I didn't list that may be a good option?
