The jags may have a perfect storm for a good trade on draft day.

Quote:Not true. Everyone said the current draft class was great for quarterbacks when five were selected in the first round in 1999. There also was a lot of talk about the 2011 draft class being good for quarterbacks. Four of the first 12 picks were quarterbacks that year. Did you forget there were six first round quarterbacks in 1983? That one was called the strongest quarterback class ever IIRC.
Recently, though, every year has been "the worst" for QB drafting, then the following year is somehow supposedly worse than that.

There wasn't actually much talk about the 2011 class being great. The top two QBs (Newton and Gabbs) were thought to be very good pro prospects, but even those two were far from sure thing prospects. There were concerns about Newton's character and ability to adapt to a pro scheme, and concerns about Gabbs' level of competition and unusual collegiate offense, IIRC. Locker was seen as a reach going before Gabbs, as he'd been pegged as a later first-round prospect, and I don't know that anyone outside of Minnesota thought that Ponder wasn't a huge reach at 12. The Vikings got scared into drafting him a round earlier than he should have gone because they saw the run on QBs and didn't want to lose the player they felt was the last one.

1999 and 1983 are so far back that they've irrelevant to this discussion. 2013, 2014 and 2015 are/were all pegged as "the worst QB class in recent memory" by draftniks in the months leading up to the draft.
