Please don't compare Dave Caldwell to Gene Smith. In just 6 months the differences are vast.
Caldwell - likes speed and playmakers Caldwell - drafts from big conferences Caldwell - identified existing talent sucked or were not worthy of long term contracts. Gene - liked to be different - small schoool needle in the haystack dude. Gene - gave contract extensions based on your talent compared to teammates (e.g. If Mike Thomas is the best player on our team, we should lock him up). Gene - prioritized combine & workout results vs on the field results. |
