If the Jags don't want to overpay then there will be plenty of 2nd and 3rd tier players for them to sign at reasonable contracts, but that requires that the Jags not sign any player in the first couple of days of Free Agency, when the Top Tier Players are signed.


The No. 1 Goal for every player in the NFL is to win a Championship and that usually happens when the player signs with a Playoff Caliber team.


A 3-13 team, well it takes a bit more convincing and not just a little convincing but a LOT of convincing.


Thus the Jags will have to pay 120 to 125 percent of the going rate to get the Top Tier guys to BUY IN to the Jags team.


Of course, people can bury their head in the sand and believe whatever they want to believe, but it won't change a thing about the REALITY that the Jags will have to PAY BIG, which is what Dave Caldwell means when he says AGGRESSIVELY PURSUE a player.

Alex Mack, probably the 2nd best center in the NFL, accepted an offer from us that would make him the 2nd highest paid center last year.


Are there players who just wouldn't sign with us unless we significantly overpay? Sure, and the same can be said for any team in the NFL. Its a bunch of bull to say we have to spend 25% more than market value for any top free agents... Its just not true and you have 0 proof of it ever happening. Players, in general, play for whoever will pay them the most.
