It's pointless playing the "if this then what?" game.  He's on the roster.  He's already accounted for under the salary cap.  If the front office feels his contract is too much to absorb for what they were getting in return, they'll cut him.  There's been some commentary coming from the front office that they actually like what they're seeing from Marcedes.  Caldwell has been directly quoted saying his veteran leadership has value to the team.  Doesn't sound like they're terribly concerned like you are about how much THEY are paying him.

 

Like I've said all along.  If they find a viable replacement and feel comfortable moving on, they will.  They won't restructure his deal.  They will simply part ways. 

 

Now, do I agree with keeping him around?  No.  I don't think his blocking has been up to snuff with what should be expected, and there have been far too many drops for a guy who came into the league as a pass catching TE.  But, I'm not the one making the roster decisions, and I'm not the one paying his salary.
