Last year JungleCat organized a mock draft for board posters which was a great idea in theory, but deteriorated quickly.  At that time, I posted I would organize a three-round mock draft this year which would address some of the issues experienced on last year's experiment.  There was also a proposed penalty which would be applied to the GM voted to have had the worst mock draft, but we can get to that later.

 

The first rule which would apply to this draft which did not apply to last year's draft is THERE WILL BE NO TRADES.  It got too confusing and killed any momentum gained when picks got traded. The real draft would have trades.  This is not the real draft.

 

Team assignment will be random. 32 board members will confirm their interest and will be randomly selected to represent a team.  If the team you get does not have a first round pick, suck it up buttercup.  GMs will need to research team needs for their assigned team and identify target players before the draft.

 

The biggest issue with last year's draft was the time it took to actually complete the draft.  So we determined it would be better to do a rapid fire draft where GMs have a three minute window to make their selection.  We would agree on a start date and time and get commitment 32 people can actually keep an appointment.

 

One of the big issues with last year's draft was that there were some participants who were, shall we say, absent from the event.  I would need to have a vetting process to ensure this did not happen again.  There were some who expressed interest in doing this last year whom I will contact directly.  I will also be sending some invites to some of the more established posters on the board to see if there is an interest.  And of course, I would open it up to others who express interest in taking part in this. 

 

I hope to be able to finalize all rules, participants and order by April.
